How Will Websites Change in 2015?

Technology is changing so fast that each year sees businesses adapting in totally unforeseen ways in order to keep up with the latest trends and digital needs, let’s take a look at what’s expected for websites in 2015 so you can stay ahead of your competition.

Mobile Friendly

Mobile browsing is set to overtake traditional browsing this year, so creating a mobile-friendly site should be at the top of every business’ to-do list, especially if your target customer is the public. These sites should have less complex designs to facilitate easy browsing on the go, and plenty of clear information and call-to-action buttons to ensure that page views are followed up with direct contact.

Improved and Localised Content

Black-hat SEO techniques have been frowned upon by Google for a while now, but many businesses haven’t quite caught up with the new way to improve their listings on result pages.

Content now needs to be more specific than ever before. The Hummingbird algorithm was put in place so that search terms could be more natural, meaning that content is even more important and your website will now need to attempt to target far more specific keywords. This also means that content needs to be more localised, with Google attempting to provide results which fit around a person’s geographical location, as well as their previous search history.

Strong VisualsHow will websites change in 2015?

As a whole, the internet is becoming more and more visual. Many companies are seeking to stand out by using videos instead of articles, and the ever-important influence of social media is easier to manipulate when you have an eye-catching design or picture to promote yourself with. One of the best ways to make your website stand out this year is by using large and arresting visual images. For a start, this usually looks better on mobile devices, but it also creates an immediately powerful image for your company, and provides the site with a contemporary look. Decreased Need

It’s worth noting that some businesses are abandoning the idea of websites altogether (though we don't advise this!). This might not be something you want to jump on board with right away, but it’s a growing trend that deserves consideration depending on your business. The fact is that information no longer needs the same digital framework that it used to. Instead of a dedicated website, increasing numbers of business owners are simply putting their information directly onto social media sites like Facebook and Google+. Essentially, these businesses bypass the traditional website by going directly to the consumer. This doesn’t mean you should just ditch your website, of course. However, it’s worth remembering that it doesn’t occupy the same position of importance which it used to.

Thoughts about websites in 2015 remain speculative, but bear these trends in mind when you’re considering your online presence and more importantly how your website fits into your overall marketing plan, and you’ll remain ahead of the game.
