How Often Should I Update My Website?

Updating your website is essential to keep yourself visible on Google and therefore visible to any potential readers or customers. If your content is out of date, this will give a bad impression to any visitors and decrease the chance of them stopping by again.

Don’t be afraid to make updates about things happening in your company. Yes the customer comes first but they want to be kept in the loop and will want to know if you plan to change anything in the near future.

Try to update your website weekly. If you have a new product or an upcoming sale, make sure to post this on your website. Have you have written a new post? Make sure your readers know about it.

Updated websites are more likely to pull in that new customer. Think if someone was presented with the same website, both offering the same product, but one had copyright 2012 in the footer and the other had copyright 2015. One had posts that hadn’t been updated since 2012 and the other had fresh, informative content that answers the customer’s questions. One had a clunky, hard to use interface and the other had a customer friendly, easy to navigate site.

Of course they will choose the newer, shinier looking website with up to date, more believable content. People want to do business with the best – or who is giving off the impression of being the best.

What Should I Update?

Blog. One of the most important things is your blog. Fresh, unique content that engages the reader and answers their questions will keep them coming back for more. It will also keep you in the good books of Search Engines so they will keep your online presence strong.

Home Page. Your home page should let the reader know what is going on in your site and cause fascination with a few teasers of content further inside; that the reader just can’t resist. Bold calls to action and maybe a sneaky peek at a video will keep visitors interested.

News Page. Any changes going on in your company that will affect your clientele should be reported here. Any rewards you or your company has received, new products or services, new staff or the next big sale need to be mentioned.

New Services or Products. As soon as you have a new/enhanced product or service, this should be updated immediately. Don’t let a customer come to your website to check out this great new thing and then find it’s not on the website – this will only lead on to a disgruntled customer and likely a never to be seen again customer.

Testimonials. Never forget the power of the testimonial. People like to be reassured and see the happy, satisfied customers before them. A picture goes a long way as well – knowing what the person looks like creates credibility.

If all this seems too daunting a task for you then enlist the help of a professional. We offer a range of services to help you keep your website looking healthy and current.
